Digital Security: Emerging Threats and increasing concerns


Seminar on Digital Security was organised in Raman Auditorium, AC Tech building, Anna University Campus, Guindy, Chennai on 31 August 2024. Hon’ble Thiru Justice K.N. Basha, Former Judge, Madras High Court, Former Chairman, Intellectual Property Appellate Board was the Chief Guest inaugurating the event. Shri K. Senguttuvan, Chairman, Valluvar Group of Institutions, Karur delivered the Key Note Address.

A thematic session on Security concerns in Digital Wallets and Payments was handled with informative inputs by Shri Benjamin Ambrose, CISO, NPCI followed by Mobile Security by Shri Sylesh of Alibiglobal and Ms Somasundri of Odyssey Technologies, Chennai. There was an interesting panel discussion on “A 360 Degree Overview in Digital Security” with the panelists representing the media industry, banking, crime and investigation. There was excellent feedback from the participants.

Digital Security – Emerging Trends and Increasing Threats


Digital Security Association of India jointly with SkillsDA Chennai, organised a Seminar on “Digital Security: Emerging Trends and Increasing Threats” at Raman Auditorium, AC Tech Building, Anna University Campus on Saturday, 6 Jan 2024. The event commenced with the Chairman Shri V Rajendran, welcoming the audience giving a brief introduction on why this seminar is being organised now and the emerging trends in digital security, digital evidences and the present scenario in the area. Inaugural address was rendered by Hon’ble Justice Thiru A.D. Jagadish Chandira, Madras High Court with an insightful lecture on the recent trends in cyber crimes and the impact on digital security especially personal digital data.

Smt. Uma Sankar, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India gave an informative talk with a PowerPoint presentation on cybercrimes, role played by RBI and the types of crimes that are generally reported in the BFSI sector. This was followed by a Special Address by Shri. Vaidyanathan Chandramouli, Director, SkillsDa speaking on digital security and the industry’s concerns in the area. Dr T.V. Gopal proposed the Vote of Thanks for the inaugural session.

After the tea break, Ms. Priyadarshini, Dy Supdt of Police, Cyber Crime Wing, and Tamil Nadu Police spoke with a presentation on how the cybercrime wing police deal with the various complaints received by them and cautioned the audience on the latest modus operandi in such crimes. Shri Shiva Balaji, CEO Bitlock Online Solutions P Ltd, gave some useful tips on mobile apps and malicious apps, followed by an informative talk by Dr N Subramaniam, Executive Director, SETS, Chennai, taking the audience through the technology involved in Artificial Intelligence including the possible threats and crimes associated with it.

After the lunch, the panel discussion was anchored by the well known TV anchor Shri Bharat, Vice President Media Journalists Association. Smt Panchi Subramanian spoke about internet banking giving some useful hints on how the public should be careful in online banking. Shri Logesh Babu, presented the user perspective in social media and gave many technology tips on security and data protection in social networking sites. Dr Praveen Kumar, Dean, Commerce, Bharat University, spoke about the addiction of youth in social media and highlighted the duties of parents and teachers in this socially networked world in guiding or guarding the youth or students. Kum Simhaanjana, Advocate, presented the legal issues explaining the salient features of Indian legislations in the area of cyber crimes and digital security. There were lots of questions from the audience, well answered by panellists Mrs. Panchi and Dr. Praveen.

All the participants numbering around 150 gave a wonderful and encouraging feedback urging the organisers to conduct more such awareness initiative seminars at regular intervals. The sponsors, volunteers and the panellists were honoured with mementos in the form of books, shields and gifts. The event concluded with a Summing and Vote of Thanks by the Treasurer Shri Ramesh Bhashyam, the group singing of National Anthem followed by Tea.

MoU signed with Central Law College, for continued and sustained mutually beneficial initiatives on Digital Security Awareness. The MoU was signed after conducting a week-long well attended programme on Cyber Laws and Digital Security at the college auditorium, on 22 Sept 2023.
